Jaisu became a member of the International Tanker Owners Pollution Federation Limited and became the first Indian company to build a double-hull oil tanker.
This vessel was built by Jaisu with no prior experience in building tankers. The following list of major machinery and equipment that were fabricated during the conversion:
- Constructed double-bottom ballast tanks.
- Zinc silicate coating was applied inside the tanks
- Corrugated bulkheads were placed
- Freeboard height was increased by one meter.
- Pipeline infrastructure was restructured in a large quantity.
- Separate pump rooms were created and commissioned in front of the house.
- Watertight doors were created conforming to rules and regulations.
- Wiring system was replaced and made fault-proof.
- Fixed and semi-portable firefighting system was installed.
- Two separate fire-pump stations were installed at the fore and aft according to the regulations.
- Construction of the house was modified conforming to the regulations for tankers.
- Tank opening and vent systems were modified and placed according to regulations for a very large crude carrier (VLCC).
- Navigational and communication package of an international standard was installed on the bridge.
